The ideal location for a steam generator is as close to the shower as possible to minimize the length of plumbing and electrical. Above all, you will need the generator to be installed in an accessible area so it can be properly maintained. Typically, generators are installed in: the garage, attic, crawl space above the shower, closet, etc., depending on the layout of your home.
Depending on your steam generator, it will either require a 208V or 240V circuit. A professional electrician is required for this to ensure that the electrical is installed safely and to code.
Although it may seem like a mundane detail, choosing the right size generator for your steam shower is an important detail that shouldn’t be glossed over. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, you’ll have to find one that’s just right. Installing a generator that is too small will fail to satisfy and will only fill your shower with cool mist instead of steam, and installing one that is too big will needlessly waste energy.
From light, sound, media, voice control, and aroma therapy--there are dozens of features to choose from to customize and build the perfect steam shower. These features come at a cost, though. Consider what makes you comfortable, and what best suits your needs before committing to and installing any.
The type of materials used to build your steam environment can have a profound effect on its performance thus impacting your overall satisfaction. Different materials have different heat retention properties and may even absorb some moisture, affecting how the steam accumulates in your shower.
